Beautiful Days

Meet Cordelia, Letty, and Astrid, three unforgettable young women who are each trying to make it in 1920s New York. Cordelia and Letty, best friends from childhood, grew up in Ohio and are recent arrivals to the city. Clever, driven Cordelia, now reunited with her family only to have her bootlegger father shot by his rival, is planning the opening of a nightclub. She will be running the nightclub herself, and pressure is mounting. This will prove difficult to balance as she finds herself in a blossoming romance with a daring pilot who owes her his life. Opening night will be the most important night for ambitious but sweet Letty's career-- she hopes to be in the spotlight, alone with her beautiful voice. The tension will build as she finds that her dreams of being a star are in Cordelia's hands-- and Cordelia doesn't seem to be handling them carefully enough. Astrid, fiery, lovable and impulsive, is in a tumultuous relationship with Cordelia's brother Charlie, and when he becomes her fiance she must find an unfamiliar new level of maturity.

Sparks fly in Beautiful Days, the fulfilling sequel to Bright Young Things. It's full of surprises-- from the suspenseful moments (when you hold your breath without realizing it) to the glorious ones when you can't help smiling (you would jump for joy, too, if you weren't in public). Beautiful Days was a thoroughly enjoyable novel. An even more exciting follow-up to Bright Young Things, it portrays a side of the protagonists which you can relate to, and which you haven't seen before. It allows you to mourn their losses and delight in their triumphs in a wonderful new way. Stop in the middle of whatever-you-may-be-reading and take the time to read just 50 pages of this book. You won't regret it, and you definitely won't be able to stop there-- there's an undeniable appeal in watching such unique people work toward achieving their dreams.

The Shattering

TheShattering is now one of my favorite books. It had a very interesting plot, making it impossible to put down and rendering me on the edge of my seat. There were parts that were very relaxed and cheerful, heart breaking and depressing, and then suspenseful and intense. Also, there were several unpredictable twists scattered in the story, causing me think about certain details more.

I loved the characters, Keri, Janna, and Sione, and how they were so different in their personalities and lifestyles. Even though they are opposites, they had a common ground, the deaths of their older brothers.

The only complaint I have is the book could have gone without all the swearing, but sometimes it did fit the situations. I would recommend The Shattering to anyone who is interested in books involving murders, love, action, and magic.

The Name of the Star

The book that I read was called Name Of The Star, and I really loved it! I liked the fact that you felt like you there in Rory's (main character) shoes the whole time, and it felt very real! I would definitely recommend this book to my friends. But, I have to say, it can get a little scary at times! I also want to say this is one of my top five favorite books of all time because it is so realistic and intriguing! I am waiting with baited breath hoping that Maureen Johnson will write a sequel soon! I am getting antsy...

Enthralled: Paranormal Diversions

Enthralled is full of ghost stories (ages 12+) from different great authors, that is just perfect for sleepovers, and the season: Halloween.

I really liked the book because it has not too long and not too short ghost stories that are not just full of horror, but also full of other emotions -- like happiness and love.

Breadcrumbs is an entrancing novel by Anne Ursu.  Fans of J.K.Rowling and Rick Riordan searching for a female hero shall take delight in Breadcrumbs where a fifth grade girl saves her best friend and crush, Jack.  As Hazel searches for Jack she finds something more – herself.

Frost

Frost is a very dark and gothic book. It was a little to creepy for me and really intense but if you are a Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights fan you will probably enjoy this book. Its Leena Thomas’ last year at boarding school and she can finally choose her dorm and her roommates. Ever since she saw the Frost House she's wanted to live their with her three best friends, Viv, Abby, and a third who isn’t back for the first semester. When the third friend can't make it back another girl, Cleste Lazar, breaks her leg and takes her place at Frost House. Celeste doesn’t get along with the other three girls at Frost and when Celeste’s brother, David, comes into the story every thing gets really complicated. Georgia, 13
