The Glass Swallow

The Glass Swallow is a great, exciting book that’s different from other books I’ve read. It’s about friendship, change, and people of different classes coming together as a more equal city. Overall I enjoyed reading The Glass Swallow, even though the ending was a bit predictable. I recommend this book to anyone who likes well written, interesting books with believable characters.

A Year Without Autumn

A YearWithout Autumn is definitely a page-turner and I highly recommend it! This book starts where twelve-year-old best friends, Jenni and Autumn, are at a summer time-share where they go during the last week of August with their families every year. The book is told from Jenni’s point of view. Jenni goes into an old elevator that she realizes takes her into the future. When she’s in the future, she sees that there is a tragic accident that has happened to Autumn’s family. Will she be able to go back to the present and keep the accident from happening, or is the accident fate that is bound to happen? Read this book to find out!

The Death Cure

After reading the first two books in the Maze Runner Trilogy, I was looking forward to The Death Cure, the final book of series. Starting right where it left off in the previous book, Thomas is in a room being held there by WICKED. WICKED has collected all the data possible from the trials and are going to use the remaining Gladers for the ultimate test: to create the cure for the Flare. They will restore the Gladers' memories and have agreed not to lie anymore. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes action, adventure, or books about dystopian societies.

Tuesdays at the Castle

Tuesdays at the Castle is about a royal family that lives at a castle which renovates itself every Tuesday. When the King and Queen go missing while picking up the eldest brother from college, the three younger heartbroken children try to track down their parents and older brother. I liked this book because of the suspense. I would recommend it to kids who like castles and stories about different times. I think that kids from ages 8-12 would really enjoy this book.

Steampunk! An Anthology of Fantastically Rich and Strange Stories

Steampunk is an anthology of stories by many different authors. Some stories were unremarkable, some were really interesting and there were two that I just couldn't finish. I'm not sure why. This was the first time I had tried the steampunk genre and it was quite strange but pleasing--although it does require certain tastes.

My favorite story was "Hand in Glove" by Ysabeau S. Wilce. It was an intriguing murder mystery that involved misconceptions, a talking chimp, and much more. It's hard to write about an anthology, how about you read it?

The Apothercary

The Apothecary is about a girl named Janie who moves to London from Los Angeles in 1952 because of her parents’ beliefs. There she meets Benjamin Burrows, an apothecary’s son. Later, Benjamin and Janie witness Benjamin’s dad get kidnapped. They then try to track him down using a special apothecary book and the help of friends. The book allows them to become invisible and turn into birds. When Benjamin and Janie do find the apothecary, they get involved in a plot that the apothecary is trying to stop. I would recommend this book to all my friends.

Deviant

When Danny moves to Colorado he is expecting to go snowboarding and chill, maybe mope a little about leaving all of his friends. What he is not expecting is to be caught up in a terrible race of time, trying to find a serial killer before it starts killing humans. But sometimes people don’t like to be found, and in Danny’s search he finds that almost everybody has a skeleton in their closet. Very fast-paced and fun, I enjoyed Deviant greatly and was on the edge of my seat the whole time.
