Sammy Keyes and the Night of the Skulls is the fourteenth book by Wendelin Van Draanen in the Sammy Keyes series. Sammy always gets in trouble with her friends Billy, Marissa, and Casey. Oh, and her archenemy Heather Acosta (aka Casey’s sister) is still nosing around in other people's business. When Sammy and her friends take a “harmless shortcut” through the graveyard, their Halloween takes a sudden turn toward trouble. I love this series because it is the perfect story for someone camping with their friends when it's a dark stormy night to read aloud. It also has just the right amount of romance.

JakeRansom and the Howling Sphinx is an exciting heart-stopping sequel to James Rollins’s Jake Ransom and the Skull King’s Shadow. This book is about Jake Ransom, his sister Kady, and his three friends Pindor, Marika, and Bachuuk. Jake and Kady are living almost normal lives since their last trip to the lost world Pangaea. But when they get sucked into a world they have never seen before they became prisoners to the blood of Ka who forces them to perform different dangerous tasks. You will love this book if you like books that have action in almost every chapter and a lot of gory details. I thoroughly enjoyed this book because it was funny at some parts and more serious at others.

The School for the Insanely Gifted is about a girl named Daphna who has the ability to write music at a young age (she is currently writing a rhapsody), and her friends Cynthia, a natural born actress, and Harkin, who can make really anything. Daphna is on a mission to find her mother who went missing when she was flying on her model of a World War II biplane. I enjoyed this book because I thought it was laugh-out-loud funny at some points in the story and I really think this book is one of his best! Dan described the characters really well and it seems like his imagination is endless. You might love this book if you like funny stories or your very interested in machinery.

13 Curses is a thrilling sequel to 13 Treasures by Michelle Harrison. 13 Curses is about a girl named Rowan (Red as she is preferred to be called.) Red is a brave adventurous girl. She has had the life of an orphan with her baby brother James since her parents die in a tragic car accident which she blames herself for. Rowan has been in the foster home for a couple of weeks when things go very wrong. This book is a bitter sweet read. Its characters are well described and they are surprising at times. This book also switches between characters and explains memories from the past. I would recommend this book to anybody who loves a good mystery and fantasy. I loved this book because it held unexpected secrets and deadly turns and it is interesting to see how Reds life turns out.
