The Cloak Society

In The Cloak Society, the main character, Alex, must decide what's right. He was born in the Cloak Society, a group of people who have super human powers and use them for evil. Alex starts to question if it's really right to stay in the group that he's in  - with all of his friends, relatives, and his parents - or to join the Rangers, a group of superheroes. He saves the life of a girl in the Rangers and starts secretly meeting her.  

Meanwhile, the Cloak Society is planning to attack the Rangers using a secret weapon. Who's side should he on? He is running out of time. The attack will happen soon! This exciting story really makes you think about the book, the characters, and what's happening.

Double Vision

Double Vision is an amazing action-packed book where a child top agent goes missing during an important mission. His exact look-alike - named Lincoln Baker - has to impersonate him and do his job for him. Can he do it or will he fail to become the person who bests him in about every skill a top agent needs? Impersonation is the least of his problems. He actually has to stop a man named Drake from selling an evil copy of the Mona Lisa to a terrorist group for five hundred million dollars. I love this book so much it only took me a few hours to read it.

Scary School #2: Monsters on the March

Scary School: Monsters on the March is the sequel to Scary School and within it the students are taking a trip to visit the monster king. After some minor adventures such as one student experiencing a trip into the "Locker of Infinite Oblivion," the students meet "King Zog the Terrible but Always Pleasant-Smelling." During their trip Charles Nukid falls in love or actually - is loved - by Zog's daughter. In his anger, Zog unleashes his monster army onto the school. Will this be the end?  You have to read this humorous book.  

Sometimes what happens in this book is so crazy that I must note how the illustrations helped me imagine what was going on. I think I'm going to read it again right now!

The Amazing Adventures of John Smith, Jr. AKA Houdini

The Amazing Adventures of John Smith, Jr. AKA Houdini is about a boy with a rather chaotic and very eventful life. He has five problems: 1) a creepy guy who lives in his neighborhood; 2) his even creepier dog; 3) a bully named Angel; 4) a selfish Mayor; and 5) (this one's a biggie) his brother who's off fighting in a war.  

Amazingly, with a little luck and some help from his friends Houdini is able to fix his problems in ways you will never imagine. The problems usually seem to play a part in the solution of other problems until everything is fixed. It all turns out fine in the end. This was an amazing story. I began to read and then I sat down for an hour or two and completely finished the book. It's that good!

The Storm Makers

It all begins when twins (a boy named Simon and a girl named Ruby) and their parents move to a farm during a drought. Ruby, while riding her bike, meets a strange man who tells her that she needs to get back to the house to help her brother. When Ruby gets home she finds Simon is sick and a storm is in full swing. Ruby later learns that this is because Simon is a part of a group of people who can influence and make weather, in other words he's a Storm Maker. Simon has the potential to be the most powerful Storm Maker ever, but the twins need to be careful because the evil Chairman of all the Storm Makers knows about Simon. Ruby has to keep Simon from falling into the wrong hands. The Storm Makers was a great book and I recommend it to anyone from ages 9 - 60!

Winterling

Winterling is an amazing story that makes you think a lot about the plot. It's very thrilling and you almost want to tell the characters what you know, what's going on, and what's happening behind their backs. This book makes you  feel that you are thrashing against an unbreakable net of amazement and tension. You have just enough room to move but you can't break out. 

It is a story about a girl named Fer who discovers that she does not belong in this world.  She travels through "the way" - a portal which leads to another world - and there she discovers a wrongness slowly destroying the land and its people. She must fix it before too much of it leaks through the open "way" into her own world AND before her waiting grandmother gets too worried. The book is one of the best ones you'll ever read, but you will get no rest until you finish it!

Pandemonium

Pandemonium by Chris Wooding and illustrated by Cassandra Diaz is a hilarious graphic novel about a teenage boy with wings named Seifer Tombchewer who lives in a village on a mountain range where the townspeople know nothing of the outside world. Then Seifer is kidnapped! He is taken to a palace away from his village where he learns that the Prince and Lord Defender of the realm has disappeared. Seifer resembles the Prince and he must replace him, but before the real Prince can be found another kingdom attacks. Will Seifer be able to lead the army to victory? This is a very funny book. The illustrations are great. I recommend this book to kids 8-12.

Warriors of the Black Shroud

Walker is an ordinary boy from the outer world, in other words, our world.  He was born with a strange star mark on his cheek.  At first he didn't like it, but then a boy from the underworld comes to tell him that the star might just be the marking of a king.  The boy takes him to a place in the underworld called Nebula where people need no food or water.  They have a ball of light called "the source" and every living thing glows.  Before Walker can decide if he wants to be king or not an old enemy of Nebula - The Back Count - attacks!  What should Walker do?  Should he stay and defend the kingdom or should he retreat to his own world? Warriors of the Black Shroud kept me turning the pages, but I didn't feel any emotions about what happened.
