Scrivener's Moon

I probably should have read the first two books of the series before I got this one but it didn't seem necessary.  I thought because I had recently read the second book and it was not confusing at all that this one would be the same. I got very confused and gave up. The preface helped explain who the main character was but I still didn't understand the story enough to enjoy it.

I don't think that Scrivener's Moon was my type of book, I was expecting something more like The Last Princess by Galaxy Craze when I read the back so no wonder I was a little bit disappointed.

Legend of the Ghost Dog

I couldn't put down Legend of the Ghost Dog. The cover looks a bit scary, but it will not give you nightmares. It is about a family who go to Nome, and the girl meets another girl who lives in Nome. They see a ghost dog, and try to find out about it. They succeed! I love this book and can't wait to read more from the author.

The Savage Fortress

I loved The Savage Fortress! I found it similar to the Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan.

At the beginning of The Savage Fortress, Ash and his sister Lucky go on vacation to India. Ash and Lucky end up in a world of demons. What started it all was when Ash accidentally stumbled and fell into Rama, an Indian Emperor's tomb. Ash saw a golden arrowhead (an Astra) and takes it from the tomb. It seems that Mr. Savage wants it, so now Mr. Savage and his demons are chasing Ash and his sister. That's where the adventure begins.

If you like adventure and mystery, then this is a book for you!

Third Grade Angels

Jerry Spinelli is a very celebrated children's author. I personally find his work delightful. So when I had a choice between two books, and only one was by him, I chose the latter.

Third Grade Angels is the prequel to Spinelli's famous, Fourth Grade Rats. This book is about a third grader who has an obsession with being first, and will do anything to be it.  I enjoyed this book because it was funny, and also touching on serious matters. In addition, this story had marvelous illustrations, in a cartoony form. Third Grade Angels was an enjoyable read.

Skinny

I thought Skinny was a wonderful portrayal of how destructive low self-esteem can be. As a teenage girl I found myself agreeing to almost all of the main points this novel makes. The only problem I had was that the main character was often unlikable, but in the end I found that I overcame my dislike of her, and enjoyed her final decisions.

Cardboard

What would you do if you got a cardboard box for your birthday? Well Cam and his father turn the box into a cardboard boxer! To their surprise it turns to life. Yet when everything is great Marcus the bully gets his hands on some of the cardboard. Cardboard is a graphic novel that involves magic, friendship, courage, and a whole lot of cardboard.

Graveyard Shift

Graveyard Shift is an incredibly exciting book. I couldn't put it down. Graveyard Shift may not have a totally unique plot line (I can name several television shows and books with similar ones), but it somehow avoids feeling cliched. The tale of good vs. evil, with lost souls stuck in the middle, is told in a new and interesting way. It has a mostly happy ending. The author does a nice job of tying up loose ends and concluding the story. Warning for realistic fiction fans: it involves ghosts, soul-sucking Mawbreeds, and agents of darkness vs. agents of light.
